Athletes competing in Action Shooting sports to date have used eyewear becuase it was compulsary from a safety standpoint. The reality is eyewear has the opportunity to offer a competitive advantage. Pilla has moved into the world of action shooting as a direct piece of our brand DNA. We sought out the expertice of World Champion Max Michel and created a unique platform to enhance the visual aptitude of a competitive action shooter.
Pilla has focused on new frame geometries, a lens light management system, and completely interchangeable frame designs to allow for the perfect visual experience on the range. The Pilla system allows a shooter to tune their eyes to navigate and optimize target aquisition. Each frame and lens design provides full panoramic vision with no interference from the frame or nosepiece.

Action Shooting Sports demand visual acquisition in fractions of sections and hand-eye coordination falls off very quickly when the eye gets tired. Giving an athlete an opportunity for faster visual reference is the difference between winning an event and losing one. The majority of sports eyewear uses Polycarbonate in the lens material and PILLA ZEISS lenses have an optically correct visual substrate that has double the optical value of Polycarbonate. This directly translates to the eye being able to look through the lens over a horizon of time with little effect on eye fatigue. This translates to an athlete being able to see, shoot, and move with ease.
It is widely misunderstood that eye performance is directly related to the amount of light getting into the eye. Too much or too little light into the eye creates a situation where the eye has to compensate and thus impacts visual aptitude. Pilla has studied and engineered lens technology for over 25 years and has dedicated the platform of the lens science to proper light management married to color manipulation. For an Action shooter, seeing the targets in various lighting situations necessitates various lens technologies for maximum performance.
